INDORE: He's the one BJP candidate, who has walked the talk. Ramesh Mendola during one of his election campaigns had said, "I will win with 1 lakh votes." With election results were out on Sunday, Mendola won from Indore 2 with the highest margin in the state.
The huge win did not come as a surprise to the party workers, who always felt that Mendola could fetch 50,000 votes even without any aggressive campaigning.
His 'son of soil' image, good connect with the voters of Nanda Nagar and Pardesipura areas worked wonders for him. Mendola maintained his status of 'mass leader' by engaging himself in activities involving common people. His clean sweep against Congress's dormant candidate Chotu Shukla is being seen as a prospect of his growth within the party. Now, what remains to be seen is if his mentor Kailash Vijayvargiya would help him climb the party ladder.
What worked for Mendola?
•Mass leader image
•Strong connect with people
•Development work in Nanda Nagar, Pardeshipura
What didn't work for Shukla?
•Image as a dormant opposition leader
•Inaccessibility to voters
•Detached from grass root
